Some Photos from the Mort Sahl 80th Birthday Tribute Show

sonovista, my friends... below are a few photos from the Mort Sahl 80th Birthday Tribute show at the Wadsworth Theater in L.A. this past thursday (june 28th)... i was seated dead-center, but fairly far back and, unfortunately, the illumination from the huge screen on my Sony H9 attracted the attention of the ushers (no, i wasn't using flash), who came over to hassle me... so i missed getting shots of george carlin and paula poundstone and norm crosby and harry shearer and... well, you get the idea... but i did get a few 'snapshots', linked below for your enjoyment... i'll do a wrap-up on our next show... in the meanwhile, check out the other posts (above and below)... i'm uploading stuff as i get it unpacked...

(**update** i've loaded a few more shots ::here:: in my smugmug gallery... different photos of the same folks)

cheers!
robin

Nice shots. Christ, it's a shame this event wasn't recorded: I guess the only way to get some people to come out to see a live show is to make it understood in advance that it won't be available on DVD in the future (I pity those people). Ten years ago I drove cross-country from Virginia to San Francisco with Enrico Banducci of the hungry i, who regaled me with fascinating stories about Sahl. I saw Woody Allen introduce Sahl at Joe's Pub in Manhattan back in '02 but that's the only time I've seen him live; his hour-long set that night must have been as sharp as ever (it could compare with Sarah Silverman's, who played the same venue within a few weeks of Sahl's appearance, if that gives you any indication of how much I liked his set).

Thank you Robin for putting our names where are pictures are. The Pat Tuzzolino Trio thanks you. Myself, drummer Billy Paul and our saxophone player, Pete Christlieb are equally appreciative of this gesture, as well as your fine photographs taken that evening.
Wishing you all the best, Billy
