Schnauzer Logic - The Podcast

Oh, The Places You'll Go, The Things That You'll See...

wanna see what makes me tick? scroll down and check out the bee-u-tea-full photos of my 'inner child'...

sonovista, my friends...  here's where we're at...  something still ain't right...  the report from the CT said sinus infection but a second opinion from a doc in NY looking at the same images says not...  i run a low grade fever but antibiotics don't seem to make any difference...  i don't have the classic symptoms of a sinus infection (bad smell, green goo) but i'm tired and my ears are clicky and i get headaches...  so i have my theories, but right now i'm keeping them to myself and have appts to see 3 (count 'em, THREE) ENT's next week...  in the meanwhile i'm gonna stick to watching the Giants lose, bad independant comedies ("The Grand") and doing a little honest work...  when i know more, or at least have some energy, we'll hop back into the studio... but for now, i'm not able to take on the additional stress...

thanks for all the kind words, emails and advice...  life goes on and as my friend Jeff said, "at least you don't have a rash!" (wiser words were never spoken!)

and now on to our photo show!

Still running a fever...

coming up on 6 weeks of running a low-grade fever (in the 99's, which is high for me since my usual operating temperature is in the 97.5-98.0 range)...

feel like crap...  have 4 more days of antibiotic but it doesn't seem to be doing anything...  doc also gave me prednisone (massive dose first day followed by decreasing doses each there thereafter) but i took 1/2 pill to test and wound up with a serious migraine, so i'm reluctant to take 8 pills at once...

anyway, bottom line is no show until i figure out what's actually wrong with me (this time)

(btw, i've done the neti pot/steam/eucalyptus/ever ything-else-on-the-planet thing in addition to the drugs)

think good thoughts

HELLOOOO???!!!!!?????

sonovista, my friends...  quick update on the Schnauzer Logic show front...

as you may have noticed (or will shortly) we've taken a break in putting together new shows (again)...  our last show was a great one in late-April with Doug Sovern and Sean and Jason and our special guest Lisa Parade...  subsequent to that my ADD/OCD kicked into overdrive when i thought it might be a good idea to think about buying my first piece of real-estate (a condo)...  needless to say (for those who know me) i managed to work myself into an anxious frenzy, weaken my immune system, and make myself really sick...  i then decided not to purchase the condo (the right decision), started running a fever, saw my doc, got antibiotics, and immediately flew to NYC for my nephew's Bar Mitzvah...   while there the weather was mostly awful (cold and rainy) and i was ill-prepared...  i got back a little over a week ago and hoped that with everything behind me i would start to recover, but i'm still not feeling well...

so tomorrow i'll try and get back to the doc and hopefully we'll figure out what's going on (i'd guess a very bad/deep sinus infection), but in the meanwhile i'm gonna put the show on hold...  1.  i don't want to make anyone else sick and 2. i don't have what it takes to do the show right (prep/book guests/etc.)...

we'll have some great shows and great guests coming up, and we're not going away (as i've said before)...  just need to take a break and get well (yet again)

till then...

Show Up
Pay Attention
Tell The Truth
And Don't Be Attached To The Outcome

To Da Moon, Alice... To Da Moon!

Here's a chance to make an alien laugh...  sign up at the NASA website and have your name put on a chip that will be sent to the moon...  there's no restriction on whose name you enter, so how about Seymore Butz or Heywood Jablomi or Anita Bath...  hahahahaha!  oh wait...  what if aliens don't have a sense of humor?  oops...  ka-boom...  there goes Sweden...

okay...  bad idea...  only use your real name...  i'm not taking any responsibility for the Intergalactic Herring Wars (that's what i'm calling it)

Hey, Friendo... What are you looking at?

sonovista my friends!  just a quick note to let you know we didn't record a show today...  i've taken to filling the quiet spaces of my life with self-expanding chaos and every last bit is now fully insulated against peace and tranquility!  (plus, it smells good!)

and the next few weeks are 'iffy'...  it does look look like sheri and i may get a chance to catch a taping of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (courtsey of sheri) and i may get to catch a taping of Late Night with David Letterman (courtsey of jann karam), so there'll likely be stories of touching famous people (and perhaps having them touch us!)

btw, jason says THANKS to everyone who has donated to his charity walk/run/snooze/drink/puk e/nick/nack/paddy/wack/gi veadogabone...  if you want to dontate, too, just click here or here or here or here or here.

Taking a Break this Week

Sonovista, my friends!  Just a head's up for those looking for this week's show...  We're taking a week off...  Sheri is winging her way to Hawaii for a well-deserved mini-break and Parviz is suddenly "unavailable" (couldn't make bail)...  in addition, I'm a tiny-bit under the weather (glug glug glug, bottle-tipping-motion with thumb and pinky)...

PLUS

i've been putting together an interview with singer/songwriter/musicia n Lisa Parade who wrote and performs the theme, "Beautiful Possibility " for the new ABC comedy, "Miss Guided " staring Judy Greer and Chris Parnell (formerly of SNL)...  i spoke with Lisa this morning and am excited to have her on the show...  she's an amazing talent and i don't think it'll be long before she's too big and imporant for her to agree to talk with us...  so we might as well strike while the iron is hot!Laughing  but as Parviz is a musician and Sheri's daughter has also been writing and recording her own songs, i felt it would be a shame not to have them in the studio for the interview.

So this is a week for everyone to get caught up, rest up, and for our Jewish listeners, "LETS GET READY TO EAT A LOT OF MATZO!" (oy!)

Schnauzer Logic - Episode 66 is Online!!!

Sonovista, my friends! Episode 66 is online... Terrific discussion with Cyrill Vatomsky, host of the "Embassy of the New World" on KSCO and a foreign policy expert, on the current situation in China... we also check in with Jason in LA... and Parviz and Sheri are in-studio...

It's high-time to post all the links to everything you need to know but right now i'm figuring out why the Cable has gone on the fritz again, need to get my oil changed, and return a monitor to FRY's, so sometime this weekend...

In the meantime you can watch the first 10 minutes of our show... clearly we're not television people!

16 Years on the Internet

Happy Friday Night...  So after the show on Wednesday, Steve Golson and I went out for dinner... we were talking about keeping track of yourself on the internet (i have a couple of 'google news alerts' for my name and the Schnauzer Logic show name, but Steve mentioned that Google Groups also keeps track of almost every post to the old "usenet"...  so i just went sniffing round, looking for old accounts...

The Internet Wayback Machine shows my first web page on October 18, 1996 (not Schnauzer Logic...  that shows up on June 19, 2000).

BUT searching for pre-California domains I found a message I posted from my account at Software Tool and Die in Brookline, Massachusetts (who are still around, amazingly, as The World) on February 6, 1992

Newsgroups: comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware
From: ____@world.std.com (RD Goldstein)
Date: Wed, 5 Feb 1992 16:12:30 GMT
Local: Wed, Feb 5 1992 9:12 am
Subject: Re: Incompatible:Viewsonic6+D iamondPlus/1mb?

Unfortunately, the ViewSonic 6 IS NOT an autosizing monitor (this is straight
from ViewSonic).  The problem you describe is particularly noticable when you
change from different scan frequencies.  According to VS "That's why we put
the controls in the front!"  I have recently purchased 5 VS6's for my office
for use with TSENG 4000 OEM video boards and they all have the same "problem".
With respect to VMODE, do you have a utility called DMODE?  This came with my
OEM video board and lets you set default scan frequencies.

-----

I know...  not so interesting (hard to remember I was an expert on the TSENG 4000 video card and chip set!), but I received an email tonight from someone inquiring about purchasing one of my other (older domains) and it got me to thinking about how long I've lived on the web.  (Modern web...  I did have accounts in 1975 on the DARPA MDL machine at MIT where I could issue commands like TELNET 20 (!) and at DEC in 1985 when I first started to use DECMail and All-In One and USENET, but those were all pre-HTTP)

So i'm not as old as John McCain, but in Internet Years, I'm old!Laughing

KNX-1070 NEWSRADIO added two more awards to its roster of honors, at this weekend's 2008 Mark Twain Awards presented by APTRA -- the Associated Press Television and Radio Association.

During the ceremonies at the Globe Theater at Universal Studios, the award for "Best News Broadcast of More Than 15 Minutes" was given to the KNX-1070 Morning News -- anchored by Dave Williams and Vicky Moore, and put together by the entire KNX morning news team.

A coveted award also went to KNX-1070 reporter Michael Linder for "Best Investigative Reporting," for his special series on kids and gangs.

KNX-1070 also won two major Mark Twain awards that had been previously announced. One was for Best Anchor Team (Dave Williams and Vicky Moore), and the other was for Best Special Program for "Out of the Ashes" -- put together by reporters Diane Thompson and Michael Linder, and produced by Emiliano Limon, Christine DeGennaro, and other members of the KNX news team.

Proof of Life

President George W. Bush

the rumors are inaccurate... we have not been held in an undisclosed location... we were not on strike in support of the writers guild... and we have not been wielding our power as a Democratic SuperDelegate®... the simple truth is: life sometimes gets in the way of life... i -had- written a witty posting about 2 weeks ago that vanished into the ether (it may appear any day now, or on a blog in a parallel universe, coming soon, near you!, or never not at all)... be that as it may, the show is not gone, not forgotten and far from over... we will kick it again, probably sooner than later... i've been in touch with everyone (except for parviz who seems to have vanished without a trace) and they're all well and aching to get back into the studio... many thanks for the kind words and brow-beatings... they've had their intended effect... i feel even more guilty about not doing the show...

thank you
thank you very much

Happy December 30th, 2007

sonovista, my friends...

hope you are all having a wonderful holiday season!... we haven't gotten back into the stream of shows as we (i) had hoped, but the schnauzer is still very much alive and we'll be getting back to a regular schedule soon...

in the meanwhile i spent the last week in Las Vegas (show prep, you know...) and met Comedian Rita Rudner who is an amazing stand-up...

Rita Rudner and Robin Diane Goldstein - Harrahs - 2007

consider this #2 in a series of photos of me with famous comedians (at least they're getting younger!)

cheers to you all!

A couple of photos from last sunday

sonovista, my friends!  a few folks who took some photos at my b'day shindig have agreed to share, so i've gathered them all together in a separate smugmug gallery

sonovista.smugmug.com/gallery/3579173

if i get more i'll add them to the gallery...  and i'm working on putting together a little film containing some of the evening's speeches...  i'm still learning how to integrate video i've shot with my new little HD camcorder (my b'day gift to myself) but i think i've got it down, now, and just need to cut down the 1hr video into one or two 10 minute segments suitable for uploading to youtube...  stay tuned....

meanwhile our good friend Taylor Negron was featured on last night's Curt Your Enthusiasm (the Larry David comedy on HBO)...  taylor plays a snooty waiter who is the -perfect- foil for LD...  i didn't know that taylor was going to be in this episode so i was taken aback and found myself laughing out loud...  i dropped taylor a note yesterday letting him know what i hoot i though he was and asked if he'd come back on Schnauzer Logic and talk about the taping of the episode and his show this summer at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and he said 'absolutely', so look for Taylor to help us celebrate the upcoming return of Schnauzer Logic (2.0)

more later... in the meanwhile THANK YOU to everyone who has written such nice things, either in the blog or in emails, offering their best wishes on my reaching the big five-oh...  you guys are all extended family and it truly means a lot (which is why i'm happy to share my photos and little videos with ya')

more soon... right now, back to work!

The Schnauzer Turns 50

sonovista, my friends... well, i'm finally 50... and it really doesn't feel any different... in fact, my friend Marjorie told me she said to her husband, David, on their drive home from my party, "so that's what the new 35 looks like" (i love marjorie)

in any event, i had an absolutely spectacular time at Olio Cafe where Chef Thomas Ricci took care of me and 50 of my friends... as expected, i was roasted to within an inch of my life, and i'll be posting some photos and video from the evening later on as time allows...

but one thing i have posted is the short 50th birthday film i made: "Robin Diane Goldstein, September 23, 2007 - 50 Years in 200 Seconds"... it may have taken 50 years to film and only 200 seconds to show, but it took me the better part of 2 weeks to put it all together... thank god for Photoshop and Final Cut Pro... in any event, the video (youtubish quality) is below, so enjoy... as i mentioned in an earlier post, the universe has tilted slightly on its axis (non-evil) and it looks like i have wednesday commitments throughout october... we may try to get a show in, or just pick up again with Schnauzer Logic 2.0, the second series, in late october... stay tuned, and thanks for all your birthday wishes!

(oh yeah... we lost 206-666-6540... a cock-up at the company that issued the number, its now been reissued to someone else... which means someone will get a surprise when they listen to the long/loud/drunken message that sheri and parviz left on the line during the middle of the party... a new number will be forthcoming... probably spring for the whole toll-free thing finally)

What's Going On...

sonovista, my friends... its just about 4:30 on saturday afternoon here at schnauzer central and i thought i'd do a quick post...

in general all is well as we plan for next weekend's celebration of my 50th birthday... finally got a chance to sit down with Chef Thomas Ricci and go over the menu and, if nothing else, the meal should be spectacular...

what's been causing me stress (in addition to the usual suspects) is that i decided, "oh... instead of a slide show, i should do a movie for my birthday and screen it at the party"... right... once again i find a way to unnecessarily ramp up the pressure on myself... so i've spent the past week going through all my crap, digging out old home movies, video tapes of every format, digital photos of every kind (including some shot at 640x480 on an original Apple QuickTake 200 camera!), and scanning in photos and documents... this has been exhausting for a couple of reasons... first, its insanely time-consuming... and second, its an emotional roller coaster of the bitter and the sweet... i didn't expect this and don't think i would have signed up for it... but i said i'd do it (to myself) so i feel an obligation to follow through...

in any event, i still haven't written a script or figured out how to shoot what i will ultimately shoot, and as a result i haven't slept more than 2 or 3 hours a night for the last 10 days... except for the apple work i barely get out of the house... and i want the whole finished project to be no more than 5-7 minutes, so i imagine my grandiose ideas for filming will be stripped down greatly, and in a hurry... i -think- i'm done collecting material (scanned my birth certificate an hour ago, working backwards) so later on i'll move all the media onto the computer in the studio (its the fastest) and start laying out at least one segment (there'll be 3... i think the second may be narrated by bryan cox, though i haven't asked him yet!)...

the final project will be available on youtube... and if you check out our schnauzerlogic channel you can see some other short clips i found that i may or may not use in the final film, of both parviz and me doing early stand-up... it's hi-larious! i've got a lot more video and will be encoding it and uploading it as time goes by...

i spoke with parviz the other day and he's good... spoke with jason and john dekoven and they're good too... sheri is back from china and sean is working away on his illustration gig...

the show will return, right now i'm guessing perhaps mid to late october (more crazy work stuff, some private client stuff under statutory deadline, some business travel and a wedding down in southern california)...

i had hoped to upload some best-of shows, but Kenneth from Earthlink (of the Home Networketing fame) took down my broadband access last week (a major f-up on earthlink's part) and its not scheduled to return until sometime this coming week... i'm online thanks to my neighbor letting me steal some of her bandwidth by putting a temporary wireless access point in her home)...

joanne is a highly regarded numerologist and has recently published a book on numerology... you can reach joanne's site at www.numbersru.com

and that's it for now...
